Welcome to Mississippi Valley Montessori School

Our School - Serving Children Since 1967

Mississippi Valley Montessori School is an AMI Accredited Montessori school. At MVMS we strive to help all children reach their full potential by providing respectful, self-paced, learning using the Montessori method. We serve children from 33-months until 6-years-old in our beautifully prepared environment. By using specially trained teachers, and Montessori materials, your children reach not only their full academic potential but focus on social-emotional learning as well.

At MVMS, we follow the West St. Paul, Mendota Heights District 197 school year calendar. Our school is located at 1575 Charlton Street, West St. Paul, MN 55118, in the lower level of St. Stephens’ Church and across the street from Dodge Nature Center.

You can reach us at 651-450-6693 or info@mvmontessori.org.

Our Programs

Half Day

Children in our half day Montessori program arrive each morning for a full and authentic, three hour Montessori work period. During this time they have the freedom to choose the work on materials as they feel called. Half day learners are fully integrated into our community, and enjoy both one on one lessons and individual work time.

Full Day

In our full day program, children attend the Montessori three hour morning work period before gathering together to eat lunch and play outside. In the afternoon children may return to their work in Children’s House or may nap depending on their individual needs. Before and after care is also available for families that need more care.

What is Montessori?

Montessori is a child led educational model created by Maria Montessori. This world renowned method believes children are capable of great things. In a Montessori environment children have the freedom to choose their own work, to deeply concentrate until they feel finished, and to work at their own pace. The specialized learning materials support educational best practices and help to foster both independence and joy in learning.

What Families are Saying…

“Our daughter emerged from her two years at MVMS a confident, joyful learner, eager to tackle Kindergarten after our move to NY.  While she took some time to adjust from writing in cursive, a Montessori instructional method, to print, and from identifying letters instead of the sound, she has handled this transition with a fierce desire to master each subsequent skill, be it a new one or one she'd already been exposed to at MVMS.  Her independence and desire to learn were fostered so intentionally at MVMS that she has a strong foundation upon which to build.  Beyond her intellectual experience, she enjoyed the friendships she established with her peers and the mentorship she received from her teachers.  She wanted to dress up as the lead teacher for Halloween and I couldn't think of a better role model. “ ~ Former MVMS Family
