What is Montessori?

The Montessori method is a scientific educational model developed by Dr. Maria Montessori based on what she learned through the observation of children. She developed this way of teaching to promote world peace through generations of children. By affording children the freedom to move, the freedom to choose and the freedom to communicate, Dr. Montessori realized that learning became an exciting process of discovery (both of the self and the universe) leading to concentration, motivation, self-discipline, a love of learning, and a reverence for life. In the Montessori method this takes place in a carefully prepared environment consisting of child sized furniture and beautifully constructed materials to both attract the child and show respect for the child through offering the best to the smallest.  The Montessori environment allows for all children to maximize their personal potential.
